Shell and Tube Falling Film Evaporator
A falling film evaporator, also referred to as a spray evaporator, is a type of heat exchanger that is quite comparable to a flooded evaporator, yet distinctly different. Refrigerant is sprayed from the top of falling film heat exchanger on to its tubes, resulting in the formation of a thin layer of refrigerant liquid film that covers the tubes. This thin film lowers the hydrostatic pressure during boiling and evaporating, which leads to an increase in the evaporator's heat exchange efficiency. In fact, its efficiency can be enhanced by up to 5 % more than that of a flooded evaporator.
